Debra’s love of people has allowed her to build business and personal ties across the globe. Learning how to work with people from other countries has taught her how best to inspire people of all backgrounds. Debra’s is in her element when working with businesses and their staff members building teams with a can-do attitude. She combines her behavioral and neuro science background to build successful teams.

Debra has forty years’ experience in a variety of industries with international ties. She has owned retail and manufacturing (worked in building the first computerized rotational molding equipment) businesses and started, with her business partner the first completely free secondary school in Kenya. Her experience includes international and domestic business development, human resources, and education. She holds an MBA in Asia Pacific Management and a Doctorate in Organizational Behavior and Management Psychology.

 

Debra’s background and education led to her to Kenya in December of 2003. The reason for her trip was to open a college of business administration for a long established sponsorship program active not only in Kenya but numerous other countries. While working on developing the school programs and teaching she noticed the extreme lack of curiosity from her students. When she asked her why they did not ask questions she was horrified by the answer. It was their answer that lead her to co-found Project Education Inc. (PEI)

 

Project Education Inc.’s mission was to open the first completely free secondary school for the poorest children. The school was opened in southeastern Kenya in March of 2005 and continues to operate today. Because of her success, using a model of education developed by she and her business partner, Debra was asked to provide numerous teacher training seminars in Kenya and Malawi. Debra also participated in the development of Kenya’s new educational act in conjunction with a member of parliament.

 

Along with her love of people she has always had a love of animals. This led to her and her husband opening a private, federally licensed, rescue facility for large cats. They successfully provide care and love to tigers and a lion for 25 years.

 

Debra currently lives in Washington and divides her time between her home in Bellingham and her humanitarian work in Kenya.

Jeana King is a bridge-builder, behavioral analyst, and humanitarian disruptor who has dedicated her career to empowering others, challenging the status quo, and strengthening communities and businesses through growing people. A human resource professional by training, she built a career path through diverse work experiences domestically and internationally to co-founder of Proactive People Consulting, a company dedicated to transforming work cultures through leadership and employee trainings and talent acquisition; and Tembo Trading Education Project (TTEP), a non-profit educating students and teachers through a holistic model developed to heal and lift up people living in poverty working herself out of a job.

​

TTEP has impacted over 20,000 students, teachers, and families in Kenya.  Building the first completely free secondary school using their holistic model, achieving #1 in the district on national exams then went on to transform additional schools with this model. Contributed to changing the National Education Act in Kenya. Worked with Kenya’s Vice President to implement their model at one of his schools. Jeana’s work has been highlighted on TV, in newspapers and magazines, and she has been invited to speak at numerous organizations. A book, Beneath the Boabob Tree – Where Poverty Dies and Hope Begins, has been written about her work.  She has received the Paul Harris Humanitarian Award from Rotary International.

Jeana is Montana born and raised which she believes instilled in her a love of family and a strong work ethic.  She currently lives in Bellingham, Washington. Jeana enjoys spending time with her husband and three boys, traveling, and exploring her artistic side.
